The January General Meeting is cancelled due to Covid and Freezing Temperatures.

The Friendship Tea  is cancelled due to Covid and Freezing Temperatures.  Too big of a crowd with kids and grandchildren.  We need to play it safe.  

We look forward to hosting the event on June 19th, pending summer vacations do not conflict.

Thursday, February 17, 2022 General Meeting

Robin Hail, General Manager of Sugar Creek Home Owners Association is in the house.  Robin's program will update us on what is happening in the neighborhood. What is being planned and how the Garden Club can partner with the HOA to continue to beautify Sugar Creek.  Q&A session will follow and is welcomed. Robin is so excited to be the GM now that Gary Sanford has retired after 30 years of service.  Robin was Gary's right hand for many years and is already very knowledgeable.  Robin walks into the job RUNNING!.  She may even bring some of her board members with her on this trip so we need her elected board.   

We look forward to finding the perfect project match for the HOA and SCGC to partner on.

Keith Baca, Manager, Accessory Place along with Francisco Silas, Floral Designer will be "Creating Beautiful Arrangements".  Keith has over 25 years experience and Francisco has over 20 years of experience.  They will be using Real Touch Floral to make the arrangements and then will donate one of the arrangements to the Raffle.  They will also have a select few accessories for sale before the meeting begins.  Keith will present a talk on "Creating and Living with Real Touch Floral Arrangements" as Francisco creates the arrangement.

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, located in the River Oaks community in Houston, Texas, is a 14-acre facility of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) that houses a collection of decorative art, paintings and furniture. Bayou Bend is the former home of Houston philanthropist Ima Hogg. Bayou Bend was marked with a Texas Historical Commission marker in 1973 and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. 

Miss Hogg created a series of gardens that were intended as outdoor rooms for living and entertaining. In 1957, Miss Hogg donated her home and her collection to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Bayou Bend opened to the public in 1966.

Rebecca Larkin, Master Gardener will be presenting "Reassessment and Maintenance of Long Time Plantings with an eye to saving Time & Money".  Several keys to success are understand watering:  not to much and not to little.  Pinching and Deadheading are vital for plants to not become stalky and sparse.  Good soil, correct feeding, light and beware of pests.  Come join Becky as she explains and shares her expertise of plants and the care for them to save you time and money.

Ann Wendell wants to thank everyone for a wonderful 2021-2022 Garden Club Year.     She will be hosting a luncheon for the Garden Board at her home.  A highly successful year of fundraising, activities, and partnering with the HOA and The Club to make our Sugar Creek neighborhood even more beautiful.

The May General Meeting is jam-packed with wonderful things:  Eduardo Ramirez will be presenting a program on Garden Fountains.   We will have the installation of the new officers.  Judy will present our Scholarship Student Winners  with their checks and they will discuss their theses and graduate projects.   And for the finale, the Ginnie Russell Award will be awarded to an outstanding garden club member.

Welcome to Bayou Blooms, a floral design studio specializing in personal flowers for home interiors and special occasions.  Mary Sommers finds the beauty of nature and flowers can elevate everyday living.  Whether sprucing up an interior prior to a party, or just the joy of everyday seasonal flowers.  Simple beauty in the form of a flower makes for extravagant living.    There’s nothing she loves more than clipping from her garden or foraging in her  backyard.  The treasures nature beholds instantly elevate an arrangement.  It  brings a dash of character and a bit of whimsy to a floral composition.   Mary loves curating the materials for her arrangements from nurseries, wholesalers, the garden, or foraged from the road.   She believes materials sourced in this manner provides a depth and unique personality to each floral design.   Flowers bring a home to life, it’s an added layer of color and texture that can make a home even more inviting for a fête or your family! Why not live life and our seasons to the fullest by adding a bit of floral magic.

"Olives for Texas: Everything You've Wanted to Know by Stephen Janak, Extension Program Specialist, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, The Department of Horticultural Sciences.


Stephen can tell us everything we want to know about Olives! Remember, Stephen was the recipient of one of our $2,000 Scholarships in May and is pursuing his PhD in Horticulture.

"Home for the Holidays" by Tony Huffman, ASID, AIFD, PPC-1, TMF.


Tony is an Interior Designer, Texas Master Florist who will present a program celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It will be a morning of flowers, poetry and holiday stories.


His experience spans the globe from Houston to Washington to Mumbai and Dubai. Tony enjoys designing extraordinary floral decor for both residential and commercial events. He always carries a notebook and sketchpad and is inspired by music, the arts, literature, and nature.

SUGAR CREEK BACKYARD GARDEN TOUR

May 6, 2023 – 10 am to 4 pm

See this year’s five showcased home gardens representing the beauty of Sugar Creek highlighting the diverse garden sizes and styles of the neighborhood. Enjoy the day visiting these lovely backyards at your own pace and try your luck in the raffle. It’s your rare chance to peek behind the fences!    Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Sugar Creek Guard House or at any of the houses on the tour.  Rain or Shine.
