President's message June 2024 - May 2025

You're Never to Old to Play in the Dirt!

Welcome to the Sugar Creek Garden Club’s 53rd year!

As I write this, we are just coming off a direct hit from Hurricane Berle. Tree branches and fences may be down, but our spirit is never broken! Hurricanes, winter freezes or summer heat waves won’t deter the ladies of the Sugar Creek Garden Club!

Our club began from a shared love of gardening and commu- nity beautification and grew to include civic involvement and charity work. From our continued support of many charities, such as The Brookwood Community, to awarding scholarships to 2 students studying horticulture at Texas A&M, all while cementing lifelong friendships along the way, our love
for Sugar Creek and this club is very special. I am proud to be a member and honored to be this year’s president.

So, get out your calendar, mark the dates of our board meet- ings, general meetings, workshops, outings, luncheons, plantsales, fundraising extravaganzas and this year’s Back Yard Garden Tour and join us at as many events as you can! Invite your neighbors to come too!

I look forward to a year of fun, wine, champagne, food, laughter, learning, planting and growing together!

Happy Gardening!
And remember... You’re never too old to play in the dirt!

Shelley Lamb

President's message June 2023 - May 2024

Live Life in Full Bloom!

It is my honor and privilege to serve as the President of Sugar Creek Garden Club in this our 52nd year.

We have once again had to rebound from a hard freeze - our third in as many years. And while it has taken a toll on our gardens, it did not squelch our commitment and dedication to community beautification. We have pruned, replanted and nurtured.  Our projects are thriving. We have much living, laughing and gardening to do!  I know you look forward to that as much as I do. Joined by many gifted and talented members, we hope this year will be a green, thriving year to remember!

One of the absolute best qualities of our club and by extension, our neighborhood, is the strong friendships we have.  Please invite new neighbors to join us. We have many exciting programs, workshops, luncheons and outings planned.

Join me friends in the upcoming 2023-2024 year as we learn new things, do new things, and meet new people along the way.  I challenge us all to be our best self, rise to the occasion, share our gifts, get involved if you haven't and do something new if you can!  Stand up tall as we stretch our petals, enjoy the sunshine, drink in the rain and... Live Life in Full Bloom!

Our Deep Roots Lead to Future Blossoms

Hello Friends,

Happy to report, our club has grown, and new roots have sprouted.  Ideas blossom with Great Programs, Fun Outings, a Magical Annual Fundraiser, the Spring Friendship Tea Party... all binds our strong roots of friendship.

The Sugar Creek Garden Club has met hurricanes, droughts, and floods fearlessly head on.  (I'm not talking about weather only).  We take a challenge by dusting off our hands, shake a few limbs to revive our roots that stimulate new blossoms.  Did you know we earned the Gold Club award for last year?  And the year before that, and the year before that and......you get it.  Congratulations to everyone. You my friends are GOLD!

I am proud to be a member of a group of knowledgeable, strong, loving, and most of all Fun Club!  Thank you for still putting out new roots and new shoots!

After all,             -Our Deep Roots Lead to Future Blooms-

My honor and pleasure,

Kathy Luckenbach

President's Message June 2021 - May 2022

Theme: Sowing the Seeds of Gardening From Style to Design to Planting

It is my honor to serve as the president of the Sugar Creek Garden Club this year.

What an exciting year we have before us! As we celebrate the Sugar Creek Garden Club’s 50th Anniversary this fall, we have even greater opportunity to continue fostering the love of gardening, make lasting friendships and contribute to our little piece of heaven we call Sugar Creek.

As we all are too aware, our gardens and yards have suffered tremendously from the February 2021 freeze.  With this in mind, our programs this year are designed

to inspire and educate our neighborhood toward recovery and rejuvenation. I am confident our Sugar Creek Garden Club is up to the challenge!

Please join us in making the SCGC 2021-2022 year a time of “Sowing the Seeds of Gardening” by inviting friends and neighbors to join you. There is no better time!

President's Message June 2020 - May 2021

Our Theme: “Home Sweet Home - Bloom Where You Are Planted”

It is an honor and pleasure to serve as the president of the Sugar Creek Garden Club this year.

As we all are aware, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has affected all aspects of life in the United States and around the world.  As this pandemic spreads, we see and live with the devastating impact it has on us all. With no effective treatment and no vaccine currently available, the most effective means of slowing the dissemination of COVID-19 is through social distancing, crowd avoidance, appropriate quarantine, and other techniques to limit community exposure.  Let us all do our part to help keep everyone safe and as healthy as possible.

While the COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented challenge and is rapidly evolving, I am acutely aware that this crisis is putting a strain on our garden club and its’ many members.  Despite these disruptions, our club can and will do our part to help see our wonderful Sugar Creek through this challenge and perhaps bring a little bit of “Home Sweet Home” to all of us.

Because the health, safety and well-being of our members is of paramount importance, I will have to make difficult decisions of when we can gather together as a group.  That being said, SCGC project work over the past few months has been nothing short of amazing.  During a time of isolation, our SCGC projects have done so much to help the neighborhood feel inspired, supported, and connected.   I hope these “BLOOMING” moments captured by ongoing “PLANTING” projects inspire you.

I am so grateful for everyone’s support in what is going to be a difficult year.  Member support comes through time, talent, or treasure.   I’m up for the challenge friends because I’ll be bundling all those together and making 2020-2021 a year to remember!
